There’s a quiet beauty in pieces that have lived a life before us.
 
This Victorian dressing table, originally crafted between 1886 and 1896, has been carefully restored and thoughtfully reimagined in my Radcliffe studio — bringing together traditional craftsmanship and a more refined, contemporary feel.
 
Beneath years of wear, the quality of the piece was still there — in its proportions, its construction, and the character of the wood. The process began by gently stripping back the original finish to reveal the natural warmth and depth within the drawer fronts, allowing the grain to become a feature once again.
 
The body has been refinished in a rich, deep teal tone, chosen to complement the warmth of the wood and give the piece a new sense of presence within a modern home. The top has been built up with multiple layers to create a smooth, durable surface — not just beautiful, but practical for everyday use.
 
The original brass handles have been individually cleaned and restored by hand, preserving a connection to the piece’s past while elevating its overall finish.
 
Inside, there’s a softer, more unexpected detail. The drawers and rear panel have been lined with a botanical design, adding depth, warmth, and a subtle moment of discovery — something that reveals itself over time rather than all at once.
 
This has been a true labour of love.
A balance between respecting the history of the piece and redesigning it for how we live today.
It is entirely unique — a piece with character, craftsmanship, and a story, ready to begin its next chapter in a new home.
