I received an enquiry from a lovely couple who had a dining table that had been refinished previously but the sun and use had caused the finish to shrink and crack. There were lots of signs of daily use. 
 
This is an oak table, almost black but with a hint of dark brown undertones. Once the existing finish was taken back to bare wood, two coats of stain were applied before three coats of hardwax oil were applied. 
 
My clients were thrilled and also asked me to do the same finish on there matching sideboard.
