A beautifully reimagined vintage Ercol dresser, professionally refinished by Flippin’ Sixpence to give this classic piece a fresh new chapter while retaining its original character and practical features.
Originally finished in a very dark oak, the substantial worktop has been carefully stripped back by hand to reveal the beautiful natural grain beneath. Rather than darkening the timber again, it has been finished with premium hardwax oil, enhancing the warmth and character of the wood while providing a durable, practical surface.
The dresser body has been professionally prepared and refinished in a rich heritage green, a timeless shade that complements the warm natural timber beautifully. The clean painted finish allows the dresser’s original mouldings, panelled doors and distinctive curved upper shelving to remain the focus.
Inside, the original dark timber has been retained, giving a lovely contrast against the painted exterior. The dresser offers generous cupboard storage with internal shelves, two spacious drawers and its original removable cutlery tray, a charming and useful feature that adds to the piece’s heritage.
Original details have also been retained, including the characterful central cupboard catch and turned drawer knobs.
With its combination of open display shelving, drawer storage and substantial cupboard space, this is a wonderfully versatile piece. It would work beautifully as a traditional dining-room dresser, kitchen storage, living-room display cabinet or statement piece in a modern country interior.
The contrast between the deep green and restored natural timber gives this dresser a timeless feel — sympathetic to its heritage, but completely refreshed for a contemporary home.
As with all vintage furniture, there may be small signs of its previous life which form part of its character and history.
